Nutritional Analysis of Fast Food

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Fast food is trying to change its face in today’s world with all of the concerns people have when it comes to nutrition. Most fast food restaurants offer a partial list of nutritional analysis up front, but when it comes to the nitty gritty there is plenty these fast food joints have to hide.

For example, big burgers and deep fried foods tend to be of the highest fats and offer the less nutritional value. But this isn’t the only thing offered in fast food anymore, you just have to know what to look for. According to nutritional analysis of fast food, the following choices are best choices per location.

Some of your favorite choices at this fast food restaurant may not be on the list if you’re going by the nutritional analysis of fast food these guys offer. Things such as big macs and quarter pounders along with French fries should be avoided most times (there’s nothing wrong with a splurge now and again).

Some good choices (according to the nutritional analysis of McDonald’s fast food) are things such as the grilled chicken sandwiches (no sauce), their yogurt parfaits and of course their line of salads which include a chicken, bacon and ranch salad, a chicken ceaser salad, and an oriental chicken salad. They even offer low fat dressings that taste just as good as the higher fat dressings!

Again, you’ll find nothing but temptations all over their menu, most of which should be stayed away from according to their nutritional analysis of the fast food Jack in the Box offers. However with selections such as great grilled chicken salads and teriyaki bowls, you can’t go wrong with a few things on the menu here.

Just make sure to choose wisely before you get there so you aren’t tempted to change your mind before ordering. Better yet, go through the drive through to avoid the wonderful smells of oil and grease coming from their kitchen.

According to Taco Bell’s fast food nutritional analysis, stay away form the beef! Staying away from all things deep fried is important too, making Taco Bell’s menu pretty small for the health conscious. In fact, many decide to avoid Taco Bell altogether. But if this fast food restaurant is your only option, consider chicken soft tacos or chicken taco salads. Some Taco Bell restaurants even offer a lower fat menu now, which is worth checking out.

Food Nutritional Analysis

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Everything we feed our bodies has an effect on us whether it be good or bad. In fact, most of the time the foods we eat have an effect on our energy, our health and our attitudes. If we’re eating a lot of fats and oils as well as carbs and sugars, there is no way for our bodies to gain enough nutrition in order for us to be productive and healthy and this is where a food nutritional analysis comes in.

A nutritional analysis is for more than just fast food nowadays, and can be adapted into our everyday lives. It can be done manually or electronically, you can make your own database or use a pre-made program. No matter how you choose to do it, doing a food nutritional analysis on things you eat before you eat them can help you to greatly reduce the nutrition you get from food in order to lose weight, feel better and get healthier.

The first and easiest way to keep track of food nutritional analysis information is to use a pre-made program online, and to store all of your information inside of it. You can do this using a free program, or by purchasing your own software. You will want to record all the foods you eat in it to determine what you are in fact putting into your body, but you can also input foods before you eat them to help determine whether it’s something you should even eat in the first place.

With this type of food nutritional analysis program, you will want to take the time to learn how it works so that you can benefit from everything it has to offer. Some programs provide recipe making programs to help you turn less healthy options into healthy fun goodies!

Secondly, you can create a food nutritional analysis spreadsheet yourself, manually. Using a program such as excel works great, you will just need to find the nutritional value of food before you input them into the spreadsheet. This process is longer, harder and takes a lot more work than the first option, but in the long run you will have recorded most things you like to eat, making the spreadsheet an easy to use tool when it comes to finding out a food’s nutritional analysis.

Nutrition Analysis Program

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Nutrition is becoming an important staple in today’s world, and there’s no easier way to manage what you eat than to use a nutrition analysis program. Before jumping into a program that you’re not familiar with and getting frustrated, it’s important to know the basics of food nutrition analysis programs and the options available before choosing to use one.

In fact, chances are that you’ll be more successful in your efforts if you don’t jump in blindfolded and you have an idea of what you’re getting yourself into. Read on if you want to learn more and find out if a nutrition analysis program is something that’s right for you and your family.

In short, a nutrition analysis program is something that can help you keep track of what you and your family is eating, and can help you to make better decisions when it comes to eating right.  Whether a family member has an allergy and cannot eat certain foods, or someone in the family is picky and refuses to eat particular things, a nutrition analysis program can be right for you.

These programs can be simple or elaborate depending on which program you choose, but the basic functions apply to most of them. You are able to input your favorite foods and recipes, and have the nutrition analysis program convey which foods are good for you and which are not.

You are able to make changes to recipes in order to make them healthier and you can save them for easy, later use. Fun recipes for children are easy to create as well using a nutrition analysis program because using ingredients like apples and peanut butter while mixing in a few other ideas can be fun to come up with.

Nutrition analysis programs can be simple or elaborate as previously mentioned, it all depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a simple program to track the nutritional value of what you eat, then a simple one should work fine for you.

If you’re interested in something that will store recipes, help create new recipes and get deep into nutrition issues, an elaborate program would be the way to go. Your best bet is to comparison shop in order to find the right nutrition analysis program for you and your family, consider the fact that there are free programs you can try so that you can determine what it is you do need and want in a program you purchase. In the end you may find that the free program works just fine for you!

Recipe Nutrition Analysis

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Nutrition is a key concern for parents and anyone who cares about their own health and lifestyle. It’s not always easy to know what you or your children are eating, and coming up with healthy recipes of your favorite foods are even harder to do. Luckily due to the availability of nutrition analysis, creating recipes that are healthy and delicious can be as easy as going out for fast food!

No matter what your favorite food is, there is a way to create a version that’s healthy for you if it already is not. The first thing you’ll do to create the recipe is to use nutrition analysis to find out which ingredients of your favorite recipe are healthy, and which need to be replaced.

Replacing the ingredients in your recipe is as easy as coming up with alternatives that you like. For example, use a low fat or 2% milk cheese instead of a full fat cheese in recipes that call for it (this might require you to change the kind of cheese you use all together). You can also use non fat yogurt in place of milk or sour cream in recipes that call for it. Be creative and come up with things you love, and that you think will make a great impact on the nutrition analysis of your recipe.

After coming up with recipes meeting your nutrition analysis requirements, you’ll need a place to keep them. Instead of taking the time to write them all down and find a place to store them where they won’t get ruined, consider using a nutrition analysis program to store your recipes. These programs will probably offer all the nutrition analysis information you need to create recipes, and offers a place to easily find what you’re looking for when you need it.

You can group them by type of recipe or flavors, cooking styles or even food types. You can also group recipes together based on who likes what, and for special occasion recipes that require nutrition analysis information. Overall using a program that can store your information on the computer is a better way to go than storing them on cars or paper in your home where there is a chance it can get ruined. Using a program online will help you to make small or major changes to your recipes when nutrition analysis calls for it.

Nutritional Analysis Software

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Nutrition is something that’s becoming more and more important to our families. In this day and age when it’s so easy to overlook our nutritional intake, things like nutritional analysis software comes in pretty handy.

There are a number of things nutritional analysis software can do, including recipe searches by nutritional analysis. This means you don’t have to do all the work yourself! In fact, using a nutritional analysis software program can help you come up with a dish you’ve never even thought of before.

The biggest reason to involve software when it comes to tracking nutrition is because it helps to compile a master list, easily accessible and easy to use. It’s something that can be referenced anytime it’s needed, at the click of a mouse.

Another reason to use nutritional analysis software is for the ability to create personalized lists for members of the family if someone has allergies or different food preferences than other family members.

When trying to teach children to eat right, teaching them to use nutritional analysis software can be a fun way to learn how to eat healthy. Choosing good for you foods and being able to creatively combine them into a fun meal is only one advantage children have when using this kind of software.

Local health stores and locations such as Office Max or Staples will probably offer one version or another, but do keep in mind that there are numerous different kinds of nutritional analysis software available on the market, many offer different kinds of options. The best way to find everything available to you is on the internet, but make sure you at least have an idea of what you’re looking for in nutritional analysis software. Do you want a recipe helper, an automatic report creator, a customizable display panel, or do you want all of these?

While online, read consumer reviews of currently available nutritional analysis software. Choose the ones that most people seem to be satisfied with, and compare those to each other for price, features and options. This should help you to make the right decision for you and your family. There are also free versions of nutritional analysis software found online; they are definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a simple program and you don’t need a lot of bells and whistles.

Nutrition Program

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Almost everyone who lives in the industrialized world has fallen on bad times at least once.  Even the most successful celebrity or athlete is not protected from finding themselves in need of help.  When I was a teenager I found myself with no job, no food and only one quarter to my name.  Fortunately, the United States Department of Agriculture Nutrition Program, more commonly known as the Food Stamp Program, was there to rescue me and many like me.

In 1939, during America’s most famous financial depression, the first Food Stamp Program was initiated.  It came to the attention of Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace that there were large amounts of surplus food that was going to waste while millions of Americans were starving.  This rescue nutrition program issued colored tickets, orange for any food or blue for surplus.  The program was terminated in 1943 when the nation’s economy began to turn around for the better.

After years of reports, studies, nutrition analysis, haggling and congressional arguing, a pilot food stamp nutrition program was reinstated in 1961 for another four years by the Eisenhower administration then extended by President Kennedy.  The first permanent program was signed into law by President Johnson in 1964.  It is a federal program but individual states have variations on the theme.

The laws in your state may vary from a neighboring state as to who is eligible for the USDA nutrition program.  Most unemployed, disabled on a low income, homeless, or self employed on a low income are eligible for the food stamp program.  The applications are available on line and can be downloaded or printed out.  You cannot apply on line at this time you must mail or take it in to Social Services to be interviewed to see if you qualify.  Applicants have to provide proof of income – pay stubs, bank books, bank statements, or other income – that will be reviewed to determine eligibility.  Discrimination against anyone for racial or religious reasons is strictly forbidden by law but some reasons for poverty are not tolerated, notably the fact that strikers cannot apply for this nutrition program.

Once you have been approved, the amount of money you are qualified for is deposited in a federal bank account and you are issued a sort of credit card called an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card.   In the past actual paper tickets in different cash increments were issued in a packet similar in appearance to travel checks or discount coupons.  The EBT card was first issued in 1984 and is now used in most states except California where cash is distributed.

You are allowed to buy only food products.  There is no nutritional analysis applied to the types of food you purchase, junk food and snacks are not discriminated against; however, in some states you can only buy the cheapest kinds of some foods like milk or eggs.  So, the fact that a nutrition program was created for the purpose of rescuing the children and adults of America who are in need; it is no guarantee of good health or a stable diet.  It remains a matter of choice.

Good Nutrition

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

For years we have been encouraged by the experts to consume more water.  The bottled water industry has taken off in a big way in the last 20 years.  I often wonder how I could have survived all that time without my trusty bottle of water, especially in the cup holder of my car.  Now I hear that all that water may not only not have helped me but might have actually hurt me!

Long ago I read that a good nutrition program meant eating the right foods to maintain an alkaline not an acid body PH level.  My Naturopath tested my saliva at every visit and I was always acidic.  She told me that acidic bodies are more prone to disease and are very susceptible to cancer growth.  There is much anecdotal evidence that being properly hydrated makes one healthier and increases lifespan.  There are also medically supported arguments that some of our most basic complaints, such as headaches and joint inflammation, are caused by not enough water in the system.   As part of my nutrition program both my Naturopath and my conventional doctor advised me to drink at least a gallon a day.  So I commenced to guzzle a gallon of what turns out to be acidic water every day!

The latest craze in the natural health world is the introduction of Kangan Water.  Last week after my yoga class I participated in a demonstration of this product.  If, like me, you have never heard of this, it is a machine that processes water to change the PH factor.  The selling point of the Kangan Water machine is based on a demonstration of how acidic all the water and soft drinks on the market are.  A dozen cups of water and drinks are treated with a dropper of chemicals to reveal how acidic they are.  Then the Kangan Water is added to the cups and “Presto!” the cups change color to show they have become alkaline.  This is a very impressive act, but what does it mean as far as good nutrition goes?

One of the signs of poor nutrition is longitudinal ridges in the fingernails.  This condition used to be called Senile Nails because it is commonly seen in the elderly whose digestive tracts are no longer able to absorb nutrients efficiently.  Today many people of all ages have these ridges, even children.  People seem to be eating more (and gaining weight) but are less energetic and more often ill.  Something is clearly wrong here!  Whether it’s caused by what we eat, how it’s grown or how it’s processed is not clear – perhaps it’s our water.  Kangan Water is not only the right PH level but also claims to be changed in a way that makes it easier for the body’s cells to absorb.  This means that the nutrition we get from our food gets into the cells in a more efficient manner; therefore, we have more energy, we expel oxidants, and we become more youthful.

The benefits of a good nutrition program are common knowledge – good energy, good skin, good brain function and longer life.  The case histories of anorexics and concentration camp prisoners speak volumes for maintaining a nutritious life style.  We cannot function properly if we are not well hydrated and well fed.  Does Kangan Water guarantee this?  The demonstration I witnessed was very convincing, but I have seen a lot of good sales techniques in my life so I remain skeptical.  The price for the basic machine is over a thousand dollars so, again, I remain skeptical.  However, the company offers free samples of the treated water, as much as a gallon at a time, to try for your own research.  I think the promised nutrition benefits are worth a little experimentation.  After all, if I’m going to drink a gallon of water a day, I’d like it to be helping me not hurting me.

Nutrition Calculator

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Watching your weight?  Watching your blood sugar levels?  Trying to calculate if you’re getting good nutrition?  Well the nutrition calculator software industry has got you covered.  Go online and check out what’s available in this line…but beware!  All is not what it seems.

Clicking through the available calculators I discovered there are calculators for finding how many calories there are in the food you’re eating, where you can find your favorite foods and how much you can eat, and even calculators that tell you how far you’ll have to jog after you’ve eaten those foods to keep from gaining weight.  The term nutrition calculator can be applied to everything from milk to pizza.  I was quite surprised to find that the site I thought would give me the litmus test for alkalinity had nothing to do with PH levels.  PH is the acronym for Pizza Hut.

The database has pages and pages of nutrition calculators to peruse.  There are calculators for service providers, such as day cares and rehabilitation centers, to manage their menus.  You can find calculators to tell you what the cholesterol level of your food is.  However, I feel a lot of caution is recommended because the majority of these calculators are provided by big name corporations.  This always makes me think of the fox guarding the hen house analogy.  Can we really trust KFC to give us an honest calculation of fat content in their baked beans?  The Arby’s calculator has so many columns for added sauces etc. that you might spend a long day trying to figure out how many calories you’re really getting.

So McDonalds is now promoting itself as a company that has good nutrition as its business strategy.  Never mind the movie “Super Size Me” and the hue and cry from the health industry…they only have your best interests at heart.  The nutrition calculator FastFoodNutrition.org shows you what they think you consumed as far as calories and good nutrition go.  Their calculations look a little different than the corporation’s, but then I’m no chemist.  However, this site also states that you should check with your health provider before making any rash decisions or storming down to Micky D’s to protest.

After checking what’s available in nutrition calculators I’m amazed that there are so many.  Again, you could spend a long day just calculating how much that pickle you ate at lunch is going to impact you diet and whether slurping down that Baskin Robbins shake is an example of good nutrition or pure indulgence.  For an accurate calculation you should check out nutrition software providers that are not owned by fast food companies, measure your portions, and use how you feel as the final nutrition calculator for you.

Nutrition Information

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

If you’re looking for information about what kinds of nutrition software is available on line, this is the place.  If you’re looking for general nutrition information, such as caloric values of foods or which foods are right for a diabetic diet, this is the place.  The Nutrition Software Directory has a listing of thousands of software programs that cover everything from weight loss to nutrition information geared for specific health problems including kidney problems, epilepsy and food allergies.

I found this sight by typing ‘nutrition software’ in my search engine.  As usual a lot of listings popped up but this one covers more than just weight loss.  Under each of the categories, beginning with General Nutrition, are programs available that provide information on meal planning, calorie counts, food compatibility, recipes, how to make foods from scratch (like noodles), food diaries and other guidelines for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Most of us can eat almost anything but some of us need special nutrition information that can’t be found in your average cookbook.  There is software geared for sports enthusiasts who want diets that will enhance their performance.  The nutritional needs of diabetics are very different from the average person.  The Nutrition Software Directory has a category that provides recipes for diabetics and another category that provides software that calculates the glycemic index of foods or how particular foods affect the blood sugar level in the body.  The Ketogenic category provides software that gives nutrition information for controlling epilepsy, a system that takes years of study put at your fingertips.

The Nutrition Software Directory also has programs for companies that sell food products.  There is a program for printing product labels and another program for tracking your inventory.   There are also website links for companies that will calculate the nutrition information of your products, such as fat and protein percentages, and based on your manufacturing method will print out a label listing your product’s nutrition information.

True there are a lot of books on the market that provide the same nutrition information as the software listed on the Nutrition Software Directory.  Most of us in the older generation have a deeply ingrained love of a good book.  However, many of us now live in small apartments or homes with limited storage space.  Software, especially downloadable software, takes up only cyberspace, and you don’t have to dust it.

Health Food Nutrition

Friday, October 31st, 2008

A good nutrition is necessary to the proper functioning of the body. There are several different types of nutrients, each of which come from one of the four major food groups. It’s best to eat a diet that consists of proportionate parts of each of the four food groups, but this can be difficult sometimes given how much fresh food costs at this point. Fresh produce tends to be especially expensive, and healthier food in general takes more labor, time and effort to produce, so it costs more. Things like fast food, on the other hand, take less effort and are overall less healthy. Health food nutrition books can offer you insight and nutrition information on the best ways to deal with the difficulties in finding good, healthy food.

Most larger cities and even smaller towns will generally have a health food store with different types of supplements and different fresh foods. Oftentimes, these are a little more expensive, such as protein shakes. Protein shakes are sold in health food stores for people who want to gain more muscle but not worry about eating all the extra food that would go with it. Health food nutrition books tend to advise avoiding overly relying on protein shakes. Although they give large amounts of protein, they lack iron. Iron is necessary for the body to create red blood cells, which carry oxygen through the body.

Health food nutrition also gives plenty of vitamin supplements, just in case you’re not in a position to eat your full allowance of vitamins in food. Vitamin supplements, advise health food nutrition experts, are a good way to make up for the lack of vitamins in the diet. They generally come in pill form, but are also in shakes. These shakes, such as Ensure, come flavored. There are also weight-loss shakes in health food store, but health food nutrition books advise not to use these to much. They’re only a substitute, but if other aspects of a person’s lifestyle aren’t in order, weight-loss shakes such as SlimFast won’t really work.

Health food nutrition advisors suggest eating as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible, because processed foods contain a lot of different chemicals that the human body was never meant to ingest. This can cause problems to the system later on in life. Also, white and smaller servings of red meat are essential to a healthy diet.
