Average Funeral Cost

There are not very many constants in life.  As been aptly stated two of the realities of life are death and taxes.  In addition, another common denominator between death and taxes is that both affect the pocketbook.

Specifically, when talking about the expenses of funerals it is important to understand what the average funeral cost is, what services are reflected in the average funeral cost and what services can be added to inflate the average funeral costs.

Average Funeral Costs

There are many factors that determine what the average funeral costs are to respectfully provide eternal rest for loved ones.  Some of those factors include what services have been decided upon by the individual.  This decision for services by the individual can be expressed through pre-burial arrangements or by expressing those wishes through a written document or by sharing with a trusted individual.

Another factor that contributes greatly to the average funeral cost is geography.  This simply means that geography can play a major role in the cost of the funeral because of the cost of living.

One other factor that contributes to the average funeral cost is the additional services provided.

Services Provided

Generally, the basic services that are reflected in average funeral costs include a variety of professional services as well as tangible items.  Typically the average funeral cost for the deceased individual to receive a respectful eternal resting place generally costs around $6,000.

Some of those practical services include interaction with professional funeral directors who are highly sensitive and encouraging.  In addition, they are subject to stringent oversight by various regulation entities.

In addition the average funeral cost includes a casket or urn and vault.

Additional Services

However, as with all things, there can be additional services provided.  Obviously these additional services add to the cost and raise the expense of the funeral beyond the average funeral cost.

Some of those additional services could include the use of a hearse, use of a limousine to transport the mourners, use of the funeral home facilities, flowers, etc.

In addition, one precaution should be mentioned.  That precaution is that when selecting funeral services, the moment can be a very emotionally draining time.  Because of this one may be caught up in the moment and select services that may increase the cost, but not really add to the value of remembering the individual who has passed on.

Therefore, it would be wise to obtain a funeral price list.  This funeral price list can be taken home and studied.  Then, possibly in consultation with others, the individual may wish to go over the funeral price list and select the desired services that will honor the individual who has passed on to their reward.
